Today it was reported that the old Yankee Stadium will be chopped up and sold to fans in little pieces as part of a $10 million-plus deal the team struck with the city. This is a HUGE slap in the face to Yankee fans, who were always under the impression (and told) that the old stadium would remain intact and used as a convention center. Not only are they going to begin demolition soon, but they plan to start before the April 16 Opening Day. Hearing that they plan to tear down a New York piece of history makes me want to take the train to 161st right now and carve out a piece of the stadium for myself. Isn’t there laws against tearing down ‘historical’ buildings. Well, this is our history!
RIP Yankee Stadium
