Macy's Moves 4th of July Fireworks to West Side

The New York Post is reporting that the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks extravaganza will be moving west this, leaving East Side residents shocked.

Macy's 4th of July fireworksMacy’s is moving its fireworks display to the Hudson River, a move to mark the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage. The move will make the West Side and New Jersey prime viewing spots for the first time since 1993, when Macy’s last used the Hudson exclusively for its fireworks show. “The 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River is a major anniversary,” said Macy’s spokesman Orlando Veras, explaining the decision to abandon the East River this year. This year’s show is expected to be bigger than last years with a total of 40,000 shells lasting 26 minutes.

fireworksEast side residents are obviously disappointed at the move since they will now loose their prime viewing spots (me being one of them). This year’s change doesn’t mean Macy’s won’t ever return to the East River. “We will look at the show and what we want to do next year and make a determination later,” Veras said.
