Fake is never in fashion
Rapper Rick Ross got called out for wearing a knock off. For a man who is fond of rapping about his taste for the finer things in life and sports gold and diamonds, it’s surprising to hear he wore FAKE Louis Vuitton shades on the cover of the new XXL magazine.
According to a letter posted by the magazine’s editors on the XXL website, a spokesperson for the luxury-goods maker recently contacted the magazine to inform them that Ross was wearing knock-off shades on the “Rick Ross Up in Smoke” cover.
“Dear editor,” the letter began. “We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXLmagazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks. Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers, among others, we feel it is important to clarify several points.
A spokesperson for Ross could not be reached for comment at press time but the man who supplied Ross with the sunglasses said they are indeed real, just customized. Jacob Bernstein, a.k.a. “The Sunglasses Pimp” said the glasses were authentic Louis Vuitton with some of his own designer augmentations. “It’s the same thing as buying a Rolls-Royce and having it tricked out,” Bernstein said. “Just because the product has been customized by me doesn’t take away from the fact that the frames are authentic Louis Vuitton Millionaires.”
A copy of the letter from Louis Vuitton concerning the May 2009 cover of Rick Ross is below.
| Dear Editor:We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks. Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers among others, we feel it is important to clarify several points.
The first is that the sunglasses Mr. Ross is wearing were not made by Louis Vuitton, and in fact, are counterfeit. Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross or to whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks. The second is that no affiliation, sponsorship or association exists between Rick Ross or XXL and Louis Vuitton. The third is that counterfeiting is illegal. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to correct the confusion. Sincerely, |
Speaking of sunglasses, Vogie Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour is getting a lot of attention for hers
On Sunday, CBS’s 60 Minutes will FINALLY air the profile it’s been preparing on Anna Wintour (my idol). 60 Minuteshas released a teaser clip, which you can see here, where the Vogue editrix explains why she is always photographed wearing sunglasses. Wintour admits she wears sunglasses indoors as protection. “They are seriously useful,” she tells Morley Safer, who shadowed her to Milan, Paris and the Costume Institute gala at the Met. “I can sit in a show and if I am bored out of my mind, nobody will notice . . . At this point, they have become, really, armor.”
CBS News cameras were following the fashion world’s queen bee as far back as last November. Her documentary The September Issuepremiered at Sundance in January and is due in theaters in September, just in time for Fashion Week.
Since becoming Vogue editor more than 20 years ago, Wintour has forged a role as one of the most powerful players in fashion. At 59 years-old, Wintour, who inspired the best-seller “The Devil Wears Prada,” plans to hold on to her post for a long time to come.
