Last week Brooke was caught up in the headlines over an altercation between actor Kiefer Sutherland and fashion designer Jack McCollough following the Met Costume Institute gala. Sutherland has been charged with third-degree assault after allegedly head-butting the Proenza Schouler designer at a Met Costume Institute Gala after party in New York on May 5. Now Brooke Shields is lashing out at the media for blowing this entire event out of control.

The “24″ actor claims he was protecting longtime pal Shields’  when the bust-up occurred, leaving McCollough with a broken nose. A comment purportedly issued by Shields’ representative surfaced immediately after the news hit the headlines, suggesting it was Sutherland who instigated the violent argument. The statement read: “Nothing happened to her. Jack did nothing inappropriate. It’s not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did.” It later emerged the comments were fake and did not come from Shields’ reps. Instead, the actress came to Sutherland’s defense saying “(Shields) was bumped into by Jack McCollough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned … Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her company.” The bizarre situation sparked a media furor, and Shields is disappointed at the “unfortunate” turn of events.

Brooke Shields admitted that Kiefer Sutherland’s alleged nightclub clash to defend her honor is “changing all our lives”. The actress, who got caught in the middle of the reported fight, insisted she is “never shocked by anything any more” – but also admitted that the incident is having a devastating effect on their lives. “The fact that it’s being blown out [of proportion] and changing all our lives – it’s just so unfortunate,” she said. Kiefer is accused of breaking Jack McCollough’s nose after head-butting him. Shields laughed at claims that she was caught “in the wrong place at the wrong time” saying, ”When you say the wrong place at the wrong time – I’m a mother of two and the fact that I was actually out… at a bar, at 2am – it made me feel really cool! I was like, ‘Hey that’s not so bad!’”  Shields did say the case “could” go to trial but also admitted that she had been told not to talk in detail about what happened for legal reasons. “The only thing I really can say is right now is that it’s all in the hands of the authorities, we all have our lawyers. I’m actually [legally] bound not to say anything,” she said.
