The 90’s are back in a big way. First the CW revived “90210” and now the network is bringing back the ’90s drama “Melrose Place”.
“Melrose Place” is one of my all time favorite TV shows so I hope the CW doesn’t desecrate the memory of the original show and keeps the new series as crazy as the original series was. “Melrose Place” is expected to be added to the Wednesday night lineup after “90210”, just like when the shows ran back-to-back on FOX beginning in 1992. Two of the original “Melrose Place” cast members will be reprising their roles and they really are the 2 best (and the only 2 people still want to see): Laura Leighton will play Sydney Andres and Thomas Calabro will return as Dr. Michael Mancini. Sidney and Michael back together for another go around, this is like a 90’s miracle. Who can forget their steamy affairs, raunchy fights, constant lies and deceit? Watching them was pure entertainment and while of their acting careers never really took off Melrose fans will welcome them back with open arms. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has also been cast in an unknown role.
The CW will also debut a new ‘Twilight’-style show called “Vampire Diaries” starring Nina Dobrey, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley. If the Twilight Saga and HBO’s True Blood are any indication, vampires are the new black which equals ratings gold. As long as they have a heavenly, hot lead actor, I am certain they’ll achieve success. “As everybody knows, chicks dig the vampires,” said Paul Wesley, who stars in “The Vampire Diaries,” a series based on the books of the same title, about two vampires who fall in love with the same woman.
Also new to the schedule is “The Beautiful Life,” set in the New York fashion world. The series will focus on the lives of two high-fashion teenage models as they learn the ropes in the glitzy but cutthroat modeling world. The show, produced by Ashton Kutcher, will feature real models Sara Paxton (Raina Collins) and Ben Hollingsworth (Chris Andrews) and feature real fashion industry insiders such as Zac Posen, who’s in the pilot. Obviously Kutcher’s experience as a male model helped mold the role of Chris, a handsome Iowa farm boy. Kutcher modeled for Calvin Klein before starring in “That 70’s Show” and is from Iowa. Mischa Barton, best known for her role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C., will play Sonja Stone, a veteran supermodel who’s trying to stay on top of the high fashion circuit.
