Anne Hathaway is proving to be quite the fashionista and at last night’s Tony Awards she didn’t disappoint. Ms. Hathaway wore a New York staple: the little black dress. The strapless Oscar de la Renta dress had a feather print sheer overlay, adding a hint of detail to the simple silhouette of the dress. She paired her elegant dress with a knock out pair of red satin Casadei heels. I am all for the bold shoe when wearing the black dress, but her shoes were the exact color of the red carpet making it seem like she was floating down the press line.
Holy Hotness! Marcia Gay Harden stole the show, literally. She won a Tony award for Best Leading Actress in a Play, and was the queen of the red carpet in this emerald green stunner. I am all for black, but green happens to be my favorite color so when someone is bold enough to pull it off, I can’t help but make mention. Marcia was dressed by Carmen Marc Valvo Fall ‘09 in a tiered mermaid gown that showed off all her womanly curves and proved you don’t need to be a stick to be sexy (t&a = hotness). Her strapless gown, accentuated by her retro curls and honey tan, gave her the look of a green goddess.
New to me was Josefina Scaglione who proved simplicity equals elegance. Wearing designer-of-the-moment (and Michelle Obama’s choice for black tie affairs) Jason Wu, she also took the plunge and opted for a sea-green, strapless gown. The simple column was accentuated by a simple black sash and an amazing cascade of ruching on the bodice accompanied by a flowing skirt. When you look from afar it’s a simple green house, and when you look up close it’s an intricate display of Wu’s craftsmanship.
Another red carpet newbie for me was Nancy La Scala who looked like a Grecian goddess in this draped masterpiece. La Scala wore a Catherine Malandrino Spring ‘09 nude, flowing gown with multi chain detail draping from the neckline making jewelry unnecessary as to not take away from the statement neckline. The beautifully draped bottom of the gown is a hard look to pull off since it tucks and flows right on your thighs, but she pulled it off beautifully and looked simply magical.
