New York City is one of the rare places where celebrities live amongst the population to lead normal lives. New Yorkers are known for their ability to leave celebs alone and rarely show excitement when in their midst. So when I saw the mayhem that ensued yesterday in NYC where Robert Pattinson is filming a movie, I was shocked. Until I saw the photo’s because they must be busing B&T crowds into the city to catch a glimpse of the star. There are worse things than thousands of girls (and boys) throwing themselves at you, but the poor guy can’t take a piss without getting mobbed. I hope we don’t leave a bad taste in his mouth about the Big Apple.

Amidst hundreds of screaming fans, it was near impossible to even spot the film star as British actor, and Twilight star, Robert Pattinson was lost in the crowd as he tried to leave his movie trailer yesterday in NYC. The crowds became so unruly that the crew of his new film linked arms to protect him after a one police officer became overwhelmed by fans as they mobbed the Twilight star. The photos say it all, it looks like Beatlemania. I haven’t seen a scene like this in NYC since….well, ever. Luckily for Rob, security guards were on hand to escort the 23-year-old safely through the sea of young fans. After breaking free from the crowd, the actor took a well deserved smoke break and tried to calm down. Witnesses said, “He sat down by himself, put his head between his legs and took a few deep breaths,” says the source. “But after that, it was right back to work — very professional.” Like a true British gentleman.

Pattinson is currently filming “Remember Me” in NYC with Emilie de Raven, but is best known for his role as 108-year-old vampire Edward Cullen in the film “Twilight.” His role in the series has catapulted him into the spotlight and with three films left in the series – New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Down – his fame seems unlikely to diminish anytime soon. According to OK! Magazine, Robert was “overwhelmed” by the entire NYC crowd and while walking with his bodyguards, a random “Twihard” got close enough to lunge at the actor, grabbing him around the neck in a haphazard embrace. “You could tell it was all starting to get to him, especially the hecklers,” one on-set source revealed to OK! “He’s been as friendly as possible to everyone; he even nicely brushed off a swarm of girls trying to get a picture with him, but after all the commotion, he needed to take a break for some personal time.”

Monday was the first of 30+ days of shooting for the film, almost all of which takes place in Manhattan. I hope Robert Pattinson realizes that we’re not all like that, but this crazed crew of young lads is going to ruin the nonchalant and easygoing New York City attitude.
