The Real Housewives of Atlanta” are back for their second season tonight and it appears as if they’ve invited all their celebrity friends.
Last season the Atlanta Housewives introduced us to a world of music producers and pro athletes, lavish homes, Benzes and Escalades, cooks and couturiers. In a place where appearance is of utmost importance, Hotlanta injected A-list stars into the Bravo hit series. Housewife Lisa Wu Hartwell is married to NFL linebacker Ed Hartwell and divorced from R&B legend Keith Sweat. Sheree Whitfield recently finalized her divorce from a former New York Giant, Bob Whitfield. Kim Zolciak claims celebrity record producer Dallas Austin as a pal and sometime collaborator even though he denied it. And after last season, when NeNe Leakes began a search for her real father, she told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “I may have a celebrity sister.” Tonight, we’ll be introduced to the fifth housewife who brings career-long ties to Atlanta’s star-studded music community.
Kandi Burruss is a Grammy-winning songwriter (she won for “No Scrubs,” the TLC fave) and former member of the girl group Xscape. “I’ve written for everybody from Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, ‘N Sync, Alicia Keys, the list goes on,” she tells the cameras. “Because I have so many great relationships I can get some of the best tracks – and I can write hot records!” In the past year, Burruss said she has been working with “American Idol” alum Fantasia Barrino on her third studio album. “Fantasia got a place here while she was working on her album,” says Burruss.”
The city’s status as a music capital and home to professional athletes explains the long roster of celeb cameos for the coming season. Celeb spotters should look out for rappers Jazze Pha, Juelz Santana and Young Jeezy, singers Ciara, Monica, Angie Stone and TLC member Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins in addition to basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins.
In the first episode, the ladies get glammed up for “Reno 911!” star Niecy Nash’s birthday party. Nene Leakes narrowly misses Kim Zolciak, who arrives in a teeny-tiny Armani zipper dress while Nash talks to Hartwell about the “feuding” among the wives.
‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star NeNe Leakes is dishing in a new autobiography about co-star Kim Zolciak, who she claims was a stripper.
NeNe Leakes will release her rags-to-riches story, “Never Make the Same Mistake Twice,” on August 11. And while the book is about Leakes’ life, she’s also talking about her onscreen frenemy Kim Zolciak and claims Zolciak’s was an Atlantic City stripper who went by the name of Barbie. Says an insider: “NeNe and Kim were friends back in the day, and now that they’re enemies, she’s ready to dish some dirt.”
Zolciak said the season 2 is “far worse” than season one adding: “There’s a ton more drama!” Kim also wants to set the record straight about one catfight seen on a promo for upcoming episodes which shows an argument ending with Sheree Whitfield pulling Kim’s wig. “No. It didn’t happen,” Kim said. Lisa Wu Hartwell played coy on the incident. “Did that happen? You have to tune in to see that. But I know she had a hell of a grab on that. She had a serious mean grip.”
The second-season premiere of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” airs Thursday at 10 p.m. on Bravo.
