The critically acclaimed, fashionably fabulous documentary “The September Issue” had its premiere in New York City on Wednesday night at the Museum of Modern Art. A-listers and fashions elite turned out to support Vogue Magazine and its editor-in-chief (and my idol) Anna Wintour.

The star wattage was high as celebrities including last year’s September cover girl Sienna Miller and Renee Zellweger hit the red carpet along with designers Marc Jacobs (in a kilt), Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch and Donna Karan, came to take in the film about the production of Vogue’s massive fall quarter kick-off.

SPT_48x72_BusShelter_Wild_1FThe movie gives viewers unprecedented access to the inner workings of fashion bible Vogue. In American Vogue, the September issue is the end all be all, the edition that garners the most attention and revenue. Thick as a telephone book, bristling with ads, it sets the tone for the next fashion season. Anna Wintour is the editor-in-chief and a legend in the industry. Some say she is the most influential person in fashion. The elegant English woman in her late 50s, with trademark bob and giant dark glasses, was already legendary before “The Devil Wears Prada made her a household name. She was supposedly the inspiration for the fearsome editor Miranda Priestly, the high priestess of fashion.

melaniaThe September Issue was filmed in the run-up to the September 2007 issue of the coveted fashion bible and gives an insight to the inner workings of the world’s most famous magazine. Sienna Miller was chosen to be the cover girl and was featured wearing a feathered dress and red lipstick. But, as the documentary shows, it took a lot of time and effort to reach the finished look.

When actress Sienna Miller appeared on the September 2007 cover of Vogue, she was criticized by Anna Wintour for her ‘toothy’ appearance. When Miller arrived at Vogue for her fitting, her hair was flat and messy, like she hadn’t washed it in days. “Let’s talk about her, because her hair is not looking its best,” Anna said after the fitting. The fashion director decided to give her a wig to wear for the shoot in Rome. But the wig didn’t work out, so they just pulled her hair back into a stumpy ponytail. The footage of the photo shoot appears in the documentary and Sienna’s embarrassment is seen on screen.

A clip from the movie shows photographer Mario Testino and design director Charles Churchward debating whether putting Sienna’s head from one shot onto another shot of her body after claiming her neck is going to need a lot of work to be presentable. Charles said: ‘You’re gonna have to retouch a lot of neck. ‘There’s a lot of teeth. It’s very teethy. And also there’s a filling, a couple of fillings there, but of course we can fix that.’

The fact she’s appeared on the magazine’s September cover, our most important issue of the year, is a testimony to this truth.’ Millers publicist added: ‘Sienna Miller is the first person to admit that her photos are always retouched – no one is ever perfect.’

But all appeared to be forgiven last night as the Sienna Miller and Anna Wintour posed together at the premiere. So what did they wear? Anna Wintour embraced her love for all things Prada by selecting a dress from their Resort 2010 collection. Wintour wore a bold orange-hue printed dress and paired the mix with a statement necklace and nude heels. Of course, her trademark sunglasses (armor) completed the look.

Cover girl Sienna Miller looking radiant and showed off her lean legs in a sky blue  Thakoon strapless mini dress. The texture of the dress was spectacular and the frock had a ruched bodice and draped and twisted skirt. With her fresh tan and blond locks, she appeared fresh and fashionable.

reneeRenee Zellweger, who wore her favorite go-to designer Carolina Herrera, caught my attention in an orange draped brocade minidress with a flowing top. I loved the color, which was a bold choice for the red carpet, but perfect for a hot night out in NYC.

Anna Wintour’s gorgeous daughter, Bee Shaffer, the fashion world heir apparent who inherited her mother’s great taste and fabulous sense of style. The 22-year-old arrived hand-in-hand with her mother and wore a divine Proenza Schouler lilac belted dress. Bee looked age appropriate, stylish and gorgeous. I would love to raid her closet!

Melania Trump came on the arm of her husband, Donald Trump. Melania looked radiant in a flowing pink chiffon dress with a ruched bodice and bold, statement belt. One of my favorite looks of the night the simple pink rty dress looked comfortable but the black jeweled belt dressed it up perfectly for the event.

Representing the fashion world were designers Oscar De La Renta, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, Georgina Chapman (Marchesa) Zac Posen, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs wore their own fashion labels.

I too had a half shaved head in high school (it was the 80’s) and never thought I would see that trend resurface, but Cassie pulls it off. Designer Tory Burch decided against wearing a piece from her own collection and instead opted for a fabulous purple Narciso Rodriguez silk dress. Burch showed off her love of color by pairing it with a hot pink, feathery bag.

The September Issue opens in NY on August 28 and on September 11 in Los Angeles and select cities.
