Today marks the 12th anniversary of the passing of Princess Diana, who along with companion Dodi Al-Fayed lost their lives in a fatal car accident in Paris. It’s hard to believe that much time has passed since that horrifying night and the images of her crushed car will haunt me forever. Even more upsetting was the images of her two handsome sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, as they walked behind their Mum’s casket, solemn with heads bowed.
The public response that followed proved her place in the publics heart as the “People’s Princess.” When I was a little girl, I awoke early in the morning with my sisters and the girls across the street (Fiona, De and Bean) to watch Diana Spencer marry Prince Charles. It was a spectacular affair and something we only thought happened in fairy tales. She was a real-life princess in every sense of the word.
Our neighbor, Jack, purchased a hardcover color book with images from the wedding day that we studied until adulthood. The photos are timeless and classic and we have yet to see another extraordinary affair as grand since.
The Huffington Post decided to honor Diana the style icon with a photo review of her fabulous fashion throughout the years. Even years after she has gone, the looks still stand the test of time.
