Are you mad for Temperley London like I am? British designer Alice Temperley is a master in all things girly and feminine. But at $800 for one of her fabulous tops and dresses that start at $1,000 her designs aren’t exactly priced for the masses. Lucky for us, Temperley London is launching a lower-priced line for Spring 2010, reports Elle U.K. Better yet, prices will start at a mere $57. OMG!

JenniferGarnerblueDesigner Alice Temperley launched her fashion line in 2000 after graduating from the famous Central Saint Martins. She hosted her first fashion show in 2003 in London, but started showing at New York Fashion Week in 2005. This year, Temperley London will show at Milk Studios during New York Fashion Week.

Temperley London fall2009With the current economic crisis, fashion designers are being forced to reinvent their business in order to stay afloat during these turbulent times. Alice Temperley’s pieces are whimsical and breathtakingly beautiful with a hint of boho-chic, but also extremely expensive. I have been pining over a ruffle front blouse with poufy sleeves that I spied at Nordstrom from her Fall/Winter 2009 collection. The price tag? $795.

temperley+london+1When Temperley collaborated with mass-market retailer Target in 2007, the line sold out within days. And even though the label has not yet released many specific details about the collection, but a source revealed to WWD that it promises to be a true lower priced line. I can’t wait!

The revered label is putting out a new capsule collection, Redux, chock full of all the house’s fashion staples such as the classic white shirt, leather jacket, and shoes. Fans of Givenchy will be thrilled to know that Redux’s entire collection will be shown twice a year alongside Givenchy’s pre-collection. Available in stores in October, the first Redux collection will include pieces less expensive than the usual runway offerings with prices starting at approximately $350.

Designers Re-adjust Prices for Fall

The summer sale season is practically finished as falls warm weather pieces have begun filling the racks at your favorite stores. For many fashion designers, the fall collection will determine the state of the retail economy. And after months of deep discounts and sales galore, it’s hard to jump into fall fashion and pay full retail.

One trend for fall is the “re-adjustment” of pricing on apparel, accessories and shoes. Over the summer, a Gucci insider commented that pricing was going to start off much more aggressive. Pointing out a fine mohair coat, which would likely be priced at $6,000 during brighter economic days, the source said will hit store shelves at $4,000 or about 33% less than a similar coat in 2008.

Gucci isn’t the only brand following this trend. Prada’s winter price list shows classic pieces, rarely on sale, have had their prices re-adjusted anywhere from 9% to 33%. Burberry has also reduced the price of some of their iconic coats with trenches being priced at $750, or $150 less expensive than prior seasons.

Will these lower prices help lure customers? While reduced rates are sure to get some consumers to open their wallets a lot of shoppers have grown accustomed to the fire sales as of late, prompting them to wait before making fall purchases. Good for shoppers, but bad for designers.
