Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are the proud parents of a baby boy.  “In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. He weighs 7 lbs. 14 oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes,” the couple wrote on Richie’s Web site. The newborn joins big sis Harlow Winter Kate Madden, born in January 2008.

Born 9/9/09, Sparrow has an “extremely rare” birthdate, celeb numerologist Tania Gabrielle told US Weekly. Numerologists refer to the number 9 as the number of life and as a signifier of “endings and beginnings,” Gabrielle said. In addition, the number 9 “signifies love, compassion and family,” she says. Sparrow “will likely be highly creative” Gabrielle tells Us. “He could also be a leader. The child will have a lot of gifts.”

Richie, 27, who enjoys a new low-key lifestyle at home since the birth of Harlow, still keeps active with various business projects, including a maternity line for A Pea in the Pod and her House of Harlow 1960 jewelry line. In addition, the couple launched the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation in 2007 to provide grants to health-care and education nonprofits.

“I don’t think you can plan anything about having a child,” Richie said last year. “It’s something completely new, so you just have to go with whatever works for you. There’s a million different ways to be a mom.”

In other baby news Grey’s Anatomy actress Katherine Heigl and musician husband Josh Kelley are reportedly adopting a 10-month-old daughter from Korea this week.

The baby name is said to be Nayleigh and her nickname will be Leigh. So this explains the hiatus from Grey’s Anatomy.

Heigl is currently on leave of absence from Grey’s due to shooting her new movie “Life As We Know It.” Could the real reason for the leave of absence be mommy-hood? To be continued…
