Serial dater George Clooney appears to be smitten with his new girlfriend, Italian TV presenter Elisabetta Canalis.
After debuting his new lady love on the red carpet of the Venice Film Festival yesterday afternoon, the couple appeared later that evening for a screening of his latest film “Men Who Stare at Goats.” The new couple, who have been dating for two months, couldn’t keep their eyes of each other all evening.
After arriving via water taxi, Clooney escorted his new lady to the top of the stairs before returning to the crowds of fans to signed autographs and pose for photographs – despite his bandaged broken hand. Clooney injured his hand a week ago after accidentally shutting it in a car door.
Canalis, who presented MTV Italy’s Total Request Live show, oozed Hollywood glamour in a flowing teal floor-length gown by fellow Italian Roberto Cavalli. The strapless gown had a neatly draped bodice that continued to flow to the floor. Him in a dark suit, her in a gorgeous dress, the couple looked absolutely stunning together.
Meanwhile, a press conference to launch the film on the Venice Lido yesterday descended into chaos when a gay Italian TV reporter tried to corner Clooney on persistent rumors about his sexuality.
In a bizarre incident, Mauro Casciari stripped down to his boxers and a tie in front of hundreds of bemused reporters revealing the words ‘George Clooney Choose Me’ and offered himself up to Clooney as boyfriend material.
Casciari approached the microphone and said, “I am gay, George. Take me, choose me George, please. May I kiss you just once?” Clooney replied with a smile, “It’s hard when you take a big chance and it doesn’t really work.”
Security guards steamed in and the reporter was swiftly escorted over the festival boundaries. Mr. Casciari said afterwards: ‘There have been lots of rumors that George is gay. I wanted him to come out and offered myself to him. So I wrote on my underwear Choose Me and stripped off. I didn’t get the answer I wanted however.’ Clooney brushed off the incident.
