Outspoken rapper (and huge jerk) Kanye West rudely interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video at MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards, declaring Beyonce’s music video should have won the moon man. “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m going to let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,” he shouted. “One of the best videos of all time,” he said, grabbing the microphone from Swift’s hand. Poor Swift, who was shocked and speechless after West ruined her big moment, promptly left the stage following West’s outburst.
The cameras then panned to Beyonce, who looked stunned as well. The crowed then booed West off stage and started to cheer for Taylor as the show immediately cut to commercial. In fact, anytime Kanye West’s name was mentioned throughout the night the crowd booed.
But Taylor Swift finally had her moment, courtesy of Beyonce. When Beyonce was awarded the coveted Video of the Year for “Single Ladies” she announced “I remember being 17-years-old and up for my first MTV Award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So I’d like Taylor to come out and have her moment.” Swift emerged back stage and quickly embraced Beyonce with a hug before finally delivering her acceptance speech. Super classy move by Beyonce.
