After Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards – during which Kanye West rudely interrupted Taylor Swift’s Best Female Video acceptance speech to say that Beyonce deserved to win – the 19-year-old singer spoke to reporters about the incident.

“Well, I was standing on stage because I was really excited because I had just won the award,” she began. “And then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.”

After the incident, she said celebs reached out to her backstage: “I’ve been getting so many text messages and everybody’s been really nice. So I’ve had a really, really fun night. It’s been interesting definitely. It’s definitely been an interesting night.”

She said she doesn’t have any ill-will toward the rapper, 32, of whom she said she was once a fan. “I don’t know him, and I’ve never met him, so…” she said. “I don’t want to start anything because I had a great night tonight.”

She also thanked Beyonce (who won Video of the Year), who invited her on stage as she accepted her award to give an acceptance speech. “They told me to stand by the side of the stage, and I didn’t really know what was going to go down,” she said. “But I thought it was so wonderful and gracious of her to do what she’s always done. She’s always been a great person before anything else. Before the talented artist, the superstar, she’s always been a great person and I just, I thought I couldn’t love Beyonce more tonight, than tonight.”

When Kanye West stormed the stage during Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech and declared, “Yo Taylor. I’m really happy for you. I’m gonna let you finish but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!” I don’t think he imagined the media backlash that would follow. Sweet little Taylor stood speechless on stage, unsure if she should continue before an MTV producer escorted her off stage before breaking down in tears. Kanye West was then asked to leave the awards show by MTV. And then the backlash began.

Kanye posted an apology to Taylor on his blog, which was written in all caps:

“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom [Andrea]. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! …………………… I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!…………….. Beyonce’s video was the best of this decade!!! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!!! I’m sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the cribe right now cause…. Well you know!!!! I’m still happy for Taylor!!!! Boooyaawww!!!! You are very talented!!!!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me… That’s what it is!!!! I’m not crazy yall, I’m just real. Sorry for that!!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!! Much Respect!!!!!”

Following Kanye West’s show-stealing antics, fans booed every time his name was mentioned. In addition, celebrities took to Twitter to voice their disgust with his rude display.

Joel Madden: “WOW Taylor Swift’s first VMA and she didn’t even get to ENJOY it. Kanye You were just a bully on that one man. All i’m saying is Taylor Swift is a young chic and you just walk up and grab the mic.”

Ryan Seacrest: “Vma’s- I feel like taylor is my little sister. I just called her to say was proud of her and she was so brave to crush it right after!”

Ricky Martin: “Kanye what an a**hole dude,” Martin wrote.

John Mayer: “Big love to my girl… . A class act.”

Lauren Conrad: “i heart Taylor Swift! Congrats! Well deserved”

Kelly Pickler: “Tator Tot, you handled yourself with Grace. Kanye, go grow some f***ing balls b***h! don’t mess w/my lil sis!!”

Pink: “Beyonce is a classy lady. I feel for her, too. Its not her fault at all, and her and taylor did their thing. And douche bag got kicked out. HA”

Spencer Pratt: “Let’s be very clear King Spencer would never do anything like what Kayne just did to a sweet soul like Taylor!”

American Idol’s original champ Kelly Clarkson posted this rant on her blog slamming Kanye for his on-stage behavior:

“Dear Kanye, What happened to you as a child?? Did you not get hugged enough?? Something must have happened to make you this way and I think we’re all just curious as to what would make a grown man go on national television and make a talented artist, let alone teenager, feel like s—. I mean, I’ve seen you do some pretty s—ty things, but you just keep amazing me with your tactless, asshole ways. It’s absolutely fascinating how much I don’t like you. I like everyone. I even like my asshole ex that cheated on me over you…which is pretty odd since I don’t even personally know you. The best part of this evening is that you weren’t even up for THIS award and yet you still have a problem with the outcome. Is winning a moon man that much of a life goal?? You can have mine if it will shut you up. Is it that important, really??

“I was actually nominated in the same category that Taylor won and I was excited for her…so why can’t you be?? I’m not even mad at you for being an asshole…I just pity you because you’re a sad human being.
