Anna Friel was the first woman on British TV to share a lesbian kiss, but she isn’t the first to go nude while performing on London’s West End. But Friel is shocking audiences in her portrayal of the role that was made iconic by Audrey Hepburn in the film adaptation: Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany’s.
Anna Friel is currently starring as the heroine of Truman Capote’s novella, a role famous for it’s portrayal by the classic Audrey Hepburn. Unlike Audrey, who kept her clothes on, Friel is baring all for her art and in the process has wowed fans at London’s Theatre Royal.
Friel shot to fame in 1993 after her on-screen kiss as Beth Jordache in ‘Brookside’ became one of the most talked-about moments in British soap history. Since ‘Brookside,’ Friel has gained notoriety playing Charlotte Charles in ‘Pushing Daisies.’
The mother-of-one recently spoke about the pressure of taking on the ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ character, which was so famously played by Audrey Hepburn. She said: ‘One of the scary things at first for me was thinking “Gosh! People will assume they’re coming to see an Audrey Hepburn impression” and that won’t be happening.
‘The film was set in 1960, so straight away we’re going to look different in terms of clothes and hairstyle.’ The new stage production is set in the 1940s.
