If Dorothy were living in the 21st century, what kind of shoe would she wear?
To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ Warner Bros. partnered with Swarovski Elements and invited fashion’s top designers to reinterpret Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers for modern times.

Some of the world’s hottest shoe designers — including Christian Louboutin, Roger Vivier, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Stuart Weitzman — have taken on the style challenge, and it’s all for a good cause. The 20 designers selected for the collaboration pulled out all the stops incorporating the famous ruby red heel with modern touches such as feathers, bows and crystal embellishments.
Singer Ashanti, who played Dorothy in the Broadway production of ‘The Wiz,’ has been tapped as official spokesperson for the film’s birthday. “[Dorothy] definitely needs some stones and diamonds and maybe some Swarovski crystals going up and down the heels,” she said.

So who made the ruby slippers she stepped into for her role as Dorothy? “Giuseppe [Zanotti] made me a custom pair when I did ‘The Wiz,’ but they were green for the Emerald City,” she explains.
If you happen to be a ‘Wizard of Oz’ fan, or a lover of fabulous red shoes, the collection is currently on display and available for bidding. All proceeds from the sale of the shoes will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Bidding will conclude on 9/24 at WB’s Entertainment Emerald Gala at Tavern on the Green in NYC.
