Bijou Phillips, daughter of The Mama’s and the Papa’s musician John Phillips, isn’t happy that stepsister Mackenzie decided to open up to the world her decade-long sexual relationship with their father.

“When I was 13, Mackenzie told me that she had a consensual sexual relationship with our father. This news was confusing and scary, as I lived alone with my father since I was 3,” Bijou, 29, says in a statement to US Weekly. “I didn’t know what to believe, and it didn’t help that shortly there after Mackenzie told me it didn’t happen. Mackenzie’s history with our father is hers, but also clouded with 30 years of drug abuse.”

Bijou continued: “I hope she can come to terms with this and find peace. The life I had with my father was very  different. He was Mr. Mom, encouraging and loving. The man that raised  me would never be capable of doing such things, and if he was, it is  heartbreaking to me to think that my family would leave me alone with him. I understand Mackenzie’s need to come clean with a history she feels will help others, but it’s devastating to have the world watch as we try and mend broken fences, especially when the man in question isn’t here to defend himself,” her statement concludes.

Bijou Phillips mother, Genevieve Phillips, is mentioned in the book as being a drug partner of Mackenzie’s. The duo often did drugs together, even while Genevieve was pregnant with Mackenzie’s half-sister Bijou. One time, Genevieve got so angry at Mackenzie over it, she kicked her, exclaiming, “It’s your fault Bijou’s retarded,” according to the book. Bijou, in fact, is brilliant, Mackenzie points out.

Mackenzie’s stepmother Michelle Phillips, 65, also slammed the story telling Vanity Fair on Friday, “I’m so embarrassed — and mad. At Oprah, at the publisher, and at Mackenzie, who should be on a psychiatrist’s couch, not on TV…..” She added, “Mackenzie has affected the lives of all her nieces and nephews, who are not going to school today and are staying home sobbing instead.”

Chynna Phillips Confronts Mackenzie Over Incest Claims

On Friday’s Oprah Winfrey Show, Chynna Phillips confronted her stepsister Mackenzie about the explosive claims made in the book.

Chynna, who earlier told US Weekly, “I have pretty much come to peace with the fact that she’s written this book and that it’s been a cathartic experience for her,” said she couldn’t be on the same stage as Mackenzie. So Mackenize appeared via satellite.

Chynna started off saying, “The thing I worry about is my words being convoluted. I wanted to be able to have this seat with you so that I could tell you where I’m coming from. Because you know how when you have too many cooks in the kitchen, it just doesn’t turn out right and things can become twisted and convoluted?”

When Mackenize appeared via satellite, she told her stepsister, “I am more in love with my sister than I’ve ever been. Chynna, you spoke so beautifully about Dad’s heart and about your truth and about your faith. I couldn’t love you more right now.” “I love you, too, Mac,” Chynna replied.

Chynna, who said she wasn’t comfortable with Mackenize’s decision to go public with the incest claims, but said she knew Mackenzie was going to write about the incestuous relationship. ” I felt like if I had been privy to the information a tad bit sooner, you know, at least maybe I could have prepared myself emotionally for the firestorm,” she said.

Chynna’s words of wisdom for Mackenzie? “If I had one piece of advice for my sister it would be get the Lord onboard,” she said, “because you’re going to need it.”

In addition The Mama’s & Papa’s Cass Elliot’s daughter, Owen Elliot is sticking by her friend saying: “Mackenzie is my best friend and I know that she would never make up a story like this. I don’t know anyone who would make up a story like this. I absolutely back her up 100 percent.”

Elliot told RadarOnline that she isn’t surprised by the Phillips family reaction, even those who have called the story false. “I think a lot of people have a lot of textbook reactions in terms of family members just not really wanting this stuff to be out there,” Elliot told RadarOnline.com. “Because, you know what? It’s sensitive stuff. It’s not laundry people want aired. Some are going to be in denial, some are going to put out the blame.”
