Actress Lindsay Lohan’s first collection as Emanuel Ungaro’s “artistic director” bombed and LiLo’s dreams of high-end fashion imploded as worldwide critics panned the Spring / Summer 2010 presentation.

“Lindsay, it’s time to get serious about reviving the acting career,” is how fashion daily WWD started their review. Head Designer Estrella Archs and Lohan only had one month to put this collection together, but the fashion pack can’t help but feel they should have waited to show until they were prepared. Lindsay emerged hand in hand with Archs to take her bow at the end of the show wearing a white dress from the collection. Looking nervous she started crying onstage. Was she overwhelmed? Or did she know if the ridicule that awaited her?

The collection resembled a craft project of questionable color combinations (hot pink and orange), nipple pasties, heart motifs, drop-crotch pants and nothing at all that made me think of Ungaro. It felt like amateur hour at fashion week.

I know some may feel everyone is looking for an excuse to bash Lindsay and simply jumping on the bandwagon, but I assure you that is not the case. WWD even addressed this in their review saying, “To be fair, there was something of a “Mean Girls” motif at play. The fashion world, or at least its old-fashioned, traditional arm, greeted the Lohan appointment with endless snickers and rolled eyes. Its members expected, perhaps even hoped for, the proverbial train wreck. And so it came, a collision of fashion, controversial celebrity and massive publicity that resulted in the most frenzied door scene we’ve seen in years.”

Ungaro hoped Lohan would inject a youthful appeal to the brand, but the outcome was “cheesy and dated,” according to WWD and a collection of “bad eighties” draped silk jackets and drop-crotch pants and tasteless sequin pasties,” according to Style.com.
