For fans of “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” the tragic beating death of star Kandi Burruss’ ex-fiancée Ashley “A.J.” Jewell couldn’t be more eerie. The show is currently in the middle of season 2 and we often see Kandi and A.J. together as they plan their upcoming nuptials. Sadly, we now know how their relationship ends. Viewers weren’t aware that Kandi and A.J. broke off their engagement in August after mounting pressure from her mother. The reunion episode is scheduled for taping this Wednesday, but obviously it will have to be rescheduled since fans of the show will want to hear Kandi talk about the tragic twist in her life.
A.J., a recurring figure on the hit Bravo series, was killed Saturday morning after sustaining head injuries in a brawl outside an Atlanta strip club that he owned. Kandi Burruss spoke out on her heartbreak yesterday by releasing this statement:
“I am devastated by the loss of A.J. His death comes on the heels of the death of my beloved Uncle Ralph and with both of them gone, my heart is heavy with grief. I had spoken to A.J. two hours before I got the call that he was in the hospital. Never in a thousand years did I think it was going to be the last time I heard his voice. He was taken way too soon. There are so many things that I should have said to him, wanted to say to him, but now it’s too late…”
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of my family and friends—and that means my Twitter and Facebook friends as well—for the beautiful words of encouragement, prayers, and the sweet condolences. I make it through these difficult days because of you. I know this is cliché, but I urge everyone to treat each day as if it’s your last and tell that special someone you love them today. Don’t wait. It may be too late.”
Burruss, a Grammy-winning songwriter and performer, asks for prayers for A.J.’s six children and expresses her immeasurable gratitude for the outpouring of support over the past 24 hours. “Please pray for his children, his family and Riley – they too are grieving the loss of an incredible man, son, brother and father. I wish you all had gotten to know the AJ we all knew and loved.”
