British designer Alexander McQueen proved the sky is the limit when he sent models down the runway at his Spring / Summer 2010 fashion show in Paris last night in 12-inch elevated platform shoes. A tall order for anyone to walk in, it’s a miracle that nobody fell on the runway wearing the shoe boots.
McQueen vision was to cast an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world: Humankind is made up of creatures that evolved from the sea, and we may be heading back to an underwater future as the ice cap dissolves. The platform shoes were part of a collection inspired by Charles Darwin’s The Origin Of The Species.

In addition to the shocking footwear, models strutted their stuff with hair teased into devil-like horns, shaved eyebrows and gills painted on their temples.
McQueen’s fashion-forward collection is always a must-see, but it’s doubtful that these shoes will translate to mass market. I imagine they’ll be used in editorial photo-shoots and for some reason I envision them being worn on Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckman, who has previously embraced exotic footwear.
The exclusive invite-only catwalk show was intended to be streamed live to an audience of six million last night, but the Showstudio.com website crashed thanks to Lady GaGa.
The pop star, who provided the music for McQueen’s show, had tweeted that her new single ‘Bad Romance’ would be premiered at the show, citing the website as a source from which to hear it.
