Michelle Obama confirmed her title as The First Lady of Fashion when she hosted her first State Dinner in the White House last week. Fabulous gown? Check. Perfect hair? Check. Showstopping jewelry? Check, check!

2009-11-30-BochicEarringsThe White Party crashers temporarily diverted our attention away from the fantastic fashion on display at the White House State Dinner when President Obama welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Mrs. Gursharan Kaur to his first official state dinner. Now that we realize the fraud’s the party crashers are, we can focus on Michelle Obama’s breathtaking ensemble, which stole the show.

2009-11-25-michelleobamaNaeem Khan, who last month launched an affordable line for QVC that sold out before the show was even over, had the privilege of dressing the First Lady for the landmark event. Khan’s vision for Obama played out perfectly and the final creation, a strapless metallic gown, suited her perfectly.

Khan, who was born in India, is best known for designing intricate and luxurious clothing worn by royalty and celebrities. Stars flock to his breathtaking beadwork and his dresses have recently been worn by Katherine Heigl, Eva Longoria-Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and now Michelle Obama.

michelle-obama-300x400“I feel so happy to be a part of this historical event between the two countries where my heart lies. I am relieved to have a job well done and am so honored to have been chosen. This is a Thanksgiving in its truest form for me and one that I will never forget–an American dream coming true,” Khan told People magazine of the extraordinary opportunity.

What does one wear to complement a luxurious gown? Super-luxe jewels!

Michelle Obama took my breath away with the rose-cut, amber, and tourmaline pear shaped earrings from Bochic, the brainchild of New York-based David Aaron Joseph and Miriam Salat.

Forgoing a necklace which would take away from the astonishing gems dropped from her earlobes, the borrowed earrings were actually the highlight of her attire.

Bochic’s baubles have been on fashion radar’s thanks to high-profile clientele such as Eva Mendes, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank, and Sandra Bullock. “We were very happy and honored that the first lady wore our earrings,” said an elated Joseph, “She was styled very appropriately and the dress was fantastic. Her stylist did an incredible job on her — from the hair, to the bangles, to the jewelry. She looked radiant and beautiful and it was right for the occasion.”

It’s the jewelry she might find at the places she travels to or that she wears while traveling. She’s not going to put in a safe — she’s going to wear it. It’s all fine jewelry but it has more of a fashion element.”

Bochic prefers not to reveal the price of this particular pair of earrings because of their vast private client base, but their earrings start at $5,000.

They look like Amrapali earrings, I went to the Hong Kong jewellery show few years back and saw the same earrings at the Amrapali’s booth. So Michelle Obama is wearing Amrapali?
Does Michelle Obama know that she’s wearing Amrapali?
