UNEXPECTED PARTNERSHIP! Jimmy Choo to Collaborate With UGG

Fresh off the heels of a hugely successful collaboration with mass-market store H&M, Jimmy Choo has surprisingly announced an unlikely collaboration with… Ugg’s.

This announcement sent shock-waves to my system considering Jimmy Choo is a high-end footwear brand known for stiletto’s and UGG is more in line with comfort chic. The clientele of these brands couldn’t be more different: a pair of Jimmy Choo stiletto’s starts at $350 and incorporate cutting edge style and class, with classic footwear. Meanwhile, UGG has become the footwear de-jour of high school and college kids in addition to cold weather climates.

I’ll admit I have a pair of black lace-up Ugg’s, but I live in New York and during the cold weather months they become my footwear staple. One thing I must point out is that my Ugg’s never come out in the warm weather months, like Kate Hudson, or ever make an appearance at fashionable events. They are isolated for treks in the snow and lounging around the house ONLY.

You cannot deny the overwhelming popularity of Ugg’s, and the sheepskin boots have become a part of American fashion culture considering my 74-year old Mother got a pair for Christmas and my teenage nieces wear them. A longtime celebrity staple, the sheepskin softies have been worn by everyone: Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Aniston, Katie Holmes, Megan Fox, Drew Barrymore, Gwen Stefani, Sarah Jessica Parker, and the list goes on.

Last year, Jimmy Choo collaborated with the old-skool label, Hunter to produce a status pair of super-chic wellies in black mock-croc priced at $300. This partnership churned out fabulous and adorable wellies, a super hip option for rain or snow.

Now, in a surprising move, Jimmy Choo is collaborating with Ugg Australia on a limited edition collection of women’s sheepskin footwear.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer the Jimmy Choo and UGG customers a unique collection of boots that we believe our customers will covet,” said Connie X. Rishwain, president of Ugg Australia. “The boots are a seamless combination of luxury comfort that the UGG customer has grown to love meeting the high fashion and bold look that Jimmy Choo has perfected.”

The collection will be based on the construction of Ugg’s sheepskin boots “with design details that embody the spirit of the Jimmy Choo brand,” the two companies said in a statement.

The co-branded collection, based on the ugg-ly boots seen everywhere, will offer five different styles in multiple colors. The limited edition collection will be available starting in October with prices ranging from $595 through to $795.

“Other than Jimmy Choo, UGG Australia is the only other footwear I have in my wardrobe,” said Tamara Mellon, president and founder of Jimmy Choo. She went on to say, ‘We are delighted to have created a special capsule that captures the best of both brands, the legendary comfort of Ugg with the spirit of Jimmy Choo.’

The collection will be carried at select Jimmy Choo and Ugg Australia stores and the two labels’ online stores, as well as at certain department and specialty stores that carry Jimmy Choo.

I am curious to see the end result of this odd collaboration. Stay tuned…
