WET & WILD! 67th Annual GOLDEN GLOBES RED CARPET Recap (Zoe Saldana, Sandra Bullock, Fergie, Penelope Cruz)

January 18th, 2010 · No Comments

Now THAT was a fabulously glamorous Hollywood night!

Who would have thought that a simple golf umbrella would turn up in so many red carpet images, making the must-have accessory at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.

Avatar: Best Motion Picture, Drama

The Golden Globes red carpet witnessed a torrential downpour on Sunday, sending stars running for cover and publicists unfurling umbrellas as they tried to salvage the red carpet photo opportunities.

Determined not to let the inclement weather rain on their parade, A-list stars hit the red carpet accompanied by PUH (personal umbrella holders).

Cast members of “The Hangover” which won Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical

Chloe Sevigny, whose delicate ruffled Valentino was soaked, declared: “Somebody should’ve put up a tarp.” The Big Love star, who won for Best Supporting Actress in Television, suffered another fashion injustice onstage when someone stepped on her train and ripped her dress.

Devilishly handsome Tom Ford, who accompanied his leading lady Julianne Moore said of the dewy drops: “They say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day, so it must be good luck if it rains on your first Golden Globes.”

Sandra Bullock credited her fabulous choice of a deep purple Bottega Veneta gown made from plastic fibers as her savior in staying dry (and chic). “My dress is actually waterproof, but it certainly wasn’t intentional. I chose it because it was beautiful,” she said.

Best Actor nominee George Clooney, in Giorgio Armani, with girlfriend Elizabetta Canalis in Robert Cavalli

Even George Clooney, who was the last to arrive, took the weather in stride.

“What is this day about? Pure rain. Just look at the bottom of her dress,” he said, pointing to the soaking hem of girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis‘ pink jersey Roberto Cavalli gown, which she paired with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.

“The technology is nothing. Talk to the hairstylists. It was an Aqua Net kind of day!” Jennifer Garner, in Atelier Versace, told E!, on how she managed to preserve her hair-do.

But back to the fashion…

Cast of “Mad Men” after winning the award for Best Television Series- Drama

Glamour was in full effect at the Golden Globes and the trends were as clearly defined.

A refreshing array of pink, purple, and peach dominated the red carpet last night and for every sleek, dark gown, there were twice as many light colored chiffon and silk gowns.

The cast of Glee, Best Televison Series, Comedy or Musical

Black dresses still made a strong showing, with Penelope Cruz, January Jones, and Glee’s Lea Michelle taking the crown as best dressed in black, but the color-du-jour was purple as evidenced by the dynamic choices of Sandra Bullock, Fergie, and Rose Byrne.

The distinctly feminine red carpet was dominated by pale hues of nude, pink and peach, which were almost as popular as the rainbow-colored ribbons stars wore to promote the message to help with the relief operation in Haiti.

Director Michael Sucsy & Drew Barrymore hold Golden Globes for their work in “Grey Gardens”

First time winner Drew Barrymore’s barely-nude Atelier Versace, Nicole Kidman’s silk ruffled Nina Ricci, and Emily Blunt’s delicately draped Dolce & Gabbana all turned up in flesh-toned gowns that offered high-wattage glamour and ultra feminine details. .

Ruffles flowed everywhere with Chloe Sevigny in a ruffle-licious Valentino gown, Kate Hudson in white ruffled top Marchesa, Anna Kendrick also in Marchesa, and Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano.

And speaking of Chloe Sevigny, as the actress took the stage to accept her first Golden Globe the poor thing suffered a wardrobe malfunction.

Fergie & Josh Duhamel

Her escort didn’t realize the length of her voluminous train and stepped on the hem of her flowing gown, causing the actress to shriek in surprise.

Sevigny pulled it together like a pro and continued on by saying, “I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for this award. And I can’t believe you just ripped my dress!”

ZOE SALDANA

The 31-year-old actress from Avatar, winner of Best Motion Picture, Drama, wore my FAVORITE dress of the evening: a stunning Louis Vuitton gown in a rich, deep berry hue.

My jaw dropped when I saw the super-stylish Zoe Saldana hit the red carpet in a dress that stood out thanks to its bold color as well as its intricate detail, flowing ruffles and dramatic train.

Layers upon layers of tiered ruffles cascaded down the skirt of the feminine dress, which has a pin-tucked strapless bodice. The skirt featured hints of satin, which when mixed with the delicate chiffon created a contrasting, avant-garde look.

SANDRA BULLOCK

Sandra Bullock took home a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, and a prime spot on the best dressed list.

Leading the pack of purple stylistas, Bullock conveyed Hollywood glamour at its best in a knock-out violet Bottega Venetta gown with a strapless ruched bodice, sheer open back, and full organza skirt which gave the total look a luminescence glow. Speaking of glowing, her natural makeup and flowing, loose curls pulled to the side made the 45-year-old double nominee glow from within.

She paired the brilliant jewel toned gown with matching knot clutch and Casadeis signature 3504 triple platform pump

FERGIE

Just one week after renewing their vows in a private ceremony, Fergie and Josh Duhamel hit the red carpet for what they called “date night.”

Fergie kept with the color theme of the evening and looked like a Greek goddess in lilac Elie Saab strapless chiffon gown with a heavily beaded waistline. Leaving her normal rocker-chic style behind, the star kept it simple with long loose curls and diamonds galore.

Fergie, who gained 17 lbs for her role in ‘Nine,’ looked like a million bucks.

ROSE BRYNE

Simply elegant is how I’d describe Rose Bryne’s classic Hollywood awards look.

Bryne wore her hair in soft waves with a sophisticated diamond brooch so it wouldn’t compete with her gorgeous eggplant gown by Lanvin, which had a mermaid train and jewel embellished floral detail at the waist.

She finished off her look with Brian Atwood black patent “Maniac” pumps and a clutch by Judith Leiber.

EMILY BLUNT

Emily Blunt had one accessory that so many envied: fiancée John Krasinski.

Even though they have yet to set a wedding date, Emily appears to have been inspired by her upcoming nuptials when she selected a delicate blush colored Dolce & Gabbana gown. Her gorgeous concoction had the 3 R’s: ruching, ruffles, romance.

The nude strapless gown was made of delicate tulle and chiffon and when paired with her silver clutch and diamond accessories made Emily shine.

She wore her hair down in loose waves, which appeared to have been matted down by the nasty rain.

Regardless, Emily Blunt, with her Prada-suited fiancée John on her arm, shined not only from her phenomenal attire, but from the love in her heart.

OLIVIA WILDE

Olivia Wilde looks sexy wearing something as simple as jeans, so when the sizzling star turned up wearing a plunging neckline Gucci gown, everyone stopped to take notice.

The knockout star wore a fully beaded jet and silver sparkly Gucci evening gown which had draped detailing which outlined the deep neckline. Olivia paired the super sexy look with Tiffany & Co. jewels, Jimmy Choo stilettos and a Judith Leiber clutch.

Wilde has announced that she will be auctioning off the Gucci dress she wore to Sunday’s Golden Globes and all proceeds will go to Haitian relief. In addition, Tiffany & Co is donating $10,000 to Artists for Peace and Justice, a group that has been funding hospitals, schools and orphanages in Haiti for the past year.

In December, Wilde was involved in building a school in Haiti. The facility was sadly destroyed in the recent devastating 7.0-quake that has claimed the lives of more than 45,000 people. “I am gutted by this catastrophe,” she said in a statement.

MARION COTILLARD

Marion Cotillard never disappoints with her luxurious style and elegant look. I suspected the star would select a gown by French fashion house Christian Dior, and was thrilled to see she did.

Her Christian Dior green satin asymmetrical Spring 2010 dress had an origami top with an intricate layered bodice and slim fitting skirt. Marion’s super high slit revealed her toned stems, and a lace underlay which strategically covered her assets.

She paired the final look with Chopard jewels, Jimmy Choo “Drake sandals” and Roger Vivier “Navette” clutch in Black Crocodile.

PENELOPE CRUZ

The ‘Nine’ girls got my vote as best dressed cast. Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Fergie, Sophia Loren, and Penelope Cruz all hit the red carpet in a stunning array of unique ensembles that reflect their individual personalities, each one looking more fabulous than the next.

Penelope Cruz is one of my favorite actresses to watch on the red carpet because she isn’t afraid to inject high-wattage glamour into events. For the big night she selected a vintage Armani Prive gown from his first haute couture collection.

Penelope’s dramatic dress had a black beaded lace trim neckline which complemented the two-tone, horizontal ribbon striped bodice. Her screen siren waves pulled off to the side and Chopard diamonds was the picture of old Hollywood glamour.

Even with the umbrella shielding her from the rain, she still looked stunning!

LEA MICHELLE

Glee’s Lea Michelle, winner of Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical, didn’t let her newcomer status hold her back from being a commanding force on the red carpet.

The 23-year-old actress looked regal in a black strapless Oscar de la Renta fitted corset gown with sweetheart neckline gown. The ruched bodice opened up into a flowing tulle skirt, which had delicate rosettes embellished in the overlay. Michelle paired the ethereal look with glam Chopard jewels and a Fendi clutch.

For a first timer she took the cake and I cannot wait to see what she fascinates us with next. Simply stunning!

JANUARY JONES

I love Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz and was thrilled to see super-stylish actress January Jones made a statement in a high-fashion selection from the genius designer.

While most stars went for light and airy, Jones went for chic. Her Lanvin gown had a bold ‘statement neckline’ which paired her simple, black silk gown with a large ruffled neckline and dramatic open back.

In terms of sleek overall look, January was the woman of the evening as she wore her hair slicked back with a black satin headband, deep red lips and Neil Lane jewels. All I could muster out when I saw her was OH-MY-GOD!

JENNIFER ANISTON

Jennifer Aniston always keeps it simple on the red carpet and I like that about her style because if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

Aniston usually opts for black gowns so the color choice wasn’t surprising, but the gown itself was.

Everyone knows that yoga does a body good, and 40-year-old yoga devotee showed us just how good in a black Valentino couture dress with a super high slit that showed off her toned legs.

Aniston paired the one-shoulder gown with Versace shoes and Fred Leighton jewelry when she presented the winner for the writing category with her Bounty Hunter costar, Gerard Butler.

KATE HUDSON

Lately Kate Hudson has been opting for white gowns at premieres so I was a bit bored that she wore the same color again, but the heavenly dress she wore was anything but.

Hudson wore a strapless silk crepe bridal gown from Marchesa’s Bridal Spring 2010 collection, which was an interesting choice considering she recently broke-up with A-Rod.

The gown was a masterpiece and featured a sculptured corset bodice with feather trim along the neckline and a flared waistline. The top of the gown, which reminded me of a white fondant wedding cake, was a feast on the eyes and Kate looked like a vision in white. Kate paired the look with a breathtaking pair of tassel earrings from Stephen Russell.

The only thing that didn’t thrill me was her choice of show: Casadei’s Signature 3504 triple platform pump. While I like this shoe, it’s not meant for this dress. This is the same show she paired with a glamorous white Atelier Versace gown at the ‘Nine” premiere in London and this bold choice of footwear paired with such a feminine dress clashes.

JULIANNE MOORE

It’s not possible to look bad when you have Tom Ford in your corner.

Julianne Moore, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for her role in A Single Man, had super-sexy fashion designer Tom Ford on her arm when she hit the red carpet and the pair looked like the first family of fashion.

She selected a gunmetal Balenciaga gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline trimmed in black lace ruched detail.

Julianne must have dressed around her accessories because the low neckline of her gown highlighted the real showstopper of her red carpet look: giant Bulgari teardrop green emerald earrings that knocked my socks off.

Women with red hair always look fabulous in green, and Moore has chosen an array of phenomenal green dresses in the past, but she went with something a little different time in letting her jewels be the showpiece and not the dress. My jaw dropped when I was these stunners made of white and yellow gold and encrusted with gobs of diamonds.

I am in love!

CHLOE SEVIGNY

I adore Chloe Sevigny for always standing true to her unique style of dress.

Winner of Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television, Sevigny must have predicted a win because she hit the red carpet in full-on glamour mode.

Chloe wore a silver lilac Valentino Spring 2010 gown with flowing ruffles that trimmed ¾ of the delightful dress. I was thrilled to see that Chloe experimented with an ultra feminine look, which is quite different than the cutting edge designs she is known to wear.

GINNIFER GOODWIN

Ginnifer Goodwin, Chloe Sevigny’s sister wife on HBO series ‘Big Love,’ has had fashionistas buzzing with delight over her bold choice of dress for the awards ceremony.

Ginnifer opted for short, sweet, and sexy as she rocked a cobalt blue Vionett dress with asymmetrical neckline and fluid skirt.

The color offered a pop of color on such a rainy night, and the flowing skirt and unique neckline looked both chic and comfy. She paired the final look with a Judith Leiber clutch and Brian Atwood clutch and “Maniac” pumps.

NICOLE KIDMAN

I was beyond thrilled to see this spectacular dress make a red carpet appearance since it caught my attention when it hit the red carpet during Fashion Week.

Nicole Kidman opted for frilly femininity when she selected blush silk ruffled Nina Ricci Spring 2010 gown that had bow details. She paired her stunning look with sparkling Fred Leighton jewels… and her husband Keith Urban.
