Sandra Bullock won the best actress prize at Saturday’s 16th annual Screen Actors’ Guild awards, dressed in black and blue gown by Alexander McQueen. But some of her peers, maybe hoping to catch a bit of her luck, took a sartorial cue from her Golden Globe appearance in purple Bottega Veneta.

Purple made another hit on the runway with Tina Fey, Anna Kendrick and others walking the carpet at the Shrine Auditorium in varying shades of violet.

White also made another strong showing with Kate Hudson, Kyra Sedgwick, and Marion Cotillard all opting to wear the angelic color.

In addition, fashionista’s such as Mariah Carey, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, and Sofia Vergara took inspiration from the red carpet in eye-popping red confections.

The award for most unique gown of the night goes Colin Firth’s wife, Livia Giuggioli. “I’m wearing a dress made entirely of milk fiber,” said Giuggioli, declining to name the designer.

“I’m doing a challenge for Vogue, and going through the entire award season wearing only ecological fashion.” Livia also carried a non-leather Stella McCartney clutch

DIANE KRUGER

Diane Kruger blew my mind with her best over-the-shoulder pose wearing a draped, one-shoulder marigold gown by Jason Wu.

“This is Jason Wu, he designed it for me,” said Diane Kruger of her custom made gown.

I adored the yellow marigold color of Diane’s gown, a show-stopping hue you rarely see on the red carpet.  Adding to the WOW factor was Diane’s bold red lips and Harry Winston red ruby jewelry, which offered the perfect contrast to her total look. Completing her finery, Diane accessorized with Sergio Rossi heels, a gold minaudière and handsome boyfriend Joshua Jackson.

DREW BARRYMORE

Drew Barrymore has found her fashion niche in a custom made, tiered midnight blue Monique Lhuillier silk chiffon and silk tulle strapless gown.

Winner of the award for Best Actress in a movie or miniseries for her performance in “Grey Gardens,” Barrymore evoked old Hollywood glamour with her ultra-glam gown, which had a fitted bodice and glorious tiered skirt with stunning embroidered detail. With her hair worn in a brilliant bouffant, jewelry by Neil Lane, a Roger Vivier bag, and Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, Drew looked spectacular.

ANNA KENDRICK

With the grace of a seasoned pro, Best Supporting Actress nominee Anna Kendrick turned heads in a purple silk chiffon bustier Alberta Ferretti gown, one of the best looks of the evening.

The orchid-purple Alberta Ferretti gown, with ruched bodice and delicately tiered skirt, added a much needed pop of high-wattage color to the red carpet. Anna kept the overall look simple, with her hair softly pulled back and understated jewelry, and let the dress take center stage.

VERA FARMIGA

I am a lover of everything J. Mendel! His designs are often featured on the red carpet and always take my breath away.

Vera Farmiga’s ethereal J. Mendel gown, in the perfect shade of blue, was a flowing delight. Pictures don’t do the detail of this confectionary creation justice, with its delicately draped blue nude cap sleeves that flowed into a pleated gown. Again, we saw a bold red lip make a statement with this ultra-femme look. Sheer perfection!

MARION COTILLARD

Marion Cotillard can do no wrong on the red carpet and she hit the SAG Awards in a white Elie Saab Haute Couture draped one shoulder embellished cocktail dress.

Forgoing the typical gown Cotillard selected a playful creation, with a feathered floral appliqué detail at the hem, which showed off her fabulous legs and showcased her vibrant personality.

Paired with Chopard jewels, a Judith Leiber clutch and Elie Saab runway heels, Marion was the epitome of Paris chic.

LEA MICHELLE

I loved her at the Golden Globes and I loved her at the SAG Awards!

Lea Michelle is officially on my fashion radar after showing a completely different style approach to awards shows. After opting for a stunning black strapless Oscar de la Renta gown for the Golden Globe Awards, the red carpet newcomer selected an emerald chiffon ruffle Catherine Malandrino gown with deep plunging neckline.

Wearing her hair in loose, flowing waves, the style chameleon rocked a completely different red caret style from her previous appearance, but knocked it out of the park with both looks.

NICOLE KIDMAN

I was bummed that Nicole Kidman didn’t walk the red carpet because when she hit the stage to present her film Nine, my jaw dropped.

Kidman wore one of my favorite gowns from the Oscar de la Renta Spring / Summer 2010 runway: an exotic sequin-embroidered gold, boho-chic strapless gown.

The stunning garment, with eclectic multi-colored embroidered detail on the bodice and at the hem, was perfectly paired with a 19th-century gold necklace and Indian enamel bracelets from Fred Leighton.

PENELOPE CRUZ

Penelope Cruz stuck to black, after wearing a spectacular Giorgio Armani Prive gown at the Golden Globes, but like her “Nine” co-star Marion Cotillard, she selected a chic cocktail dress.

Penelope still wore her screen siren retro waves pulled off to the side, but opted for a modern L’Wren Scott Spring 2010 sheath dress. The black beaded embellished fitted dress with fringed shoulders was paired with Casadei heels, Yossi Harari earrings, and a Chopard bracelet.

KYRA SEDGWICK

Can you believe that Kyra Sedgwick is 45-years-old? With a toned physique and natural glow, Kyra could rival most twenty-something’s in the hotness department.

Wearing an ivory Vera Wang strapless gown, Kyra’s look stood out thanks to the grey sash and jeweled detail across the bodice.

For Spring 2010, Vera Wang’s bridal gown collection is accented with black sashes, so she reinterpreted the look to look less bridal with fitted tailoring and fishtail hem.

ANNA PAQUIN

YEOW! I was thrilled to see a dress from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 collection o the red carpet at such a high profile Hollywood event, and leave it to Anna Paquin to pull it off.

The “True Blood” star sported an edgy, super sexy reptile print minidress from Alexander McQueen with a plunging neckline. Wearing her hair loosely pulled half up, and paired with black and gold trimmed strappy sandals, Ana’s look shows how avant-garde runway looks can be translated into real-way, red carpet events.

KATE HUDSON

I loved this dress, but I am so tired of seeing Kate Hudson in white. But I guess if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.

Hudson’s white jersey, long sleeve open back evening dress with crystal embellishments from Emilio Pucci provided a great entrance, but an even better exit.

With $1.75 million worth of vintage Cartier jewels cascading down her plunging back, Kate looked white hot and super sexy.
