Twenty-five years ago, almost to date, a historic event took place, changing the history of music for the better. The song, “We Are The World,” written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie marks its anniversary with a make over and a new cause.

More then 100 of music’s biggest artists united by the songs original producer, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie and RedOne, have come together to cover the beautiful song. With a more modern Southern hip-hop bounce, it is set to make its debut February 12th on NBC during the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremonies.

Music, in more ways then one holds amazing healing power. It brings people together in times of sorrow and provides communication, sympathy, and emotion in ways that words alone cannot. Wyclef Jean, a native Haitian and charity leader couldn’t have said it better as he spoke words of inspiration to his fellow artists, “What’s bigger than a contribution is that you lend your voice.”

The original version’s proceeds went to a charitable organization, USA for Africa (United Support of Artists for Africa), which aided during the countries ’84-‘85 famine. This time around, the proceeds are supporting Haitian earthquake relief.

The list of musicians contributing their gift of song includes, Amber Rose, Barbra Streisand, Beach Boy Brian Wilson and Al Jardin, Bizzy Bone, Bono, Brandy, Busta Rhymes, Carlos Santana, Eminem, Enrique Iglesias, Faith Evans, Fonzworth Bentley, Gladys Knight, Good Charlotte’s Madden brothers, Harry Connick jr, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson, India.arie, Iyaz, Jay-Z, Jamie Foxx, Jason Mraz, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Julianne Hough, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Jonas Brothers, Kanye West, Katharine McPhee, Keith Urban, Keri Hilson, Kid Cudi, Lady Gaga, LL Cool J, Melanie Fiona, Musiq Soulchild, Mya, Nancy Wilson, Nick Jonas, Nicole Richie, Nicole Scherzinger, Nipsey Hussle, Randy Jackson, Raphael Saadiq, Reba McEntire, Rob Thomas, Robin Thicke, Sean Garrett, Snoop Dogg, The Zac Brown Band, Toni Braxton, Tony Bennett, T-Pain, Trey Songz, Tyrese, Usher, Vince Vaughn, Will.I.Am, and Wyclef Jean. The official list has not yet been released.

In addition, the songs known soloists are Miley Cyrus, Akon, Pink, Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion and Josh Groban.

15-year-old Canadian heartthrob, Justin was honored with singing the opening line originally sung by Lionel Richie. While rap sensation, Lil Wayne humbly noted that he sang the solo originally performed by Bob Dylan.

The big event occurred on Monday, Feb 1st at Henson Studios and took a reported 16 hours to complete. According to sources, the original “We Are The World” singers such as Steve Wonder and Lionel Richie, are not in the front lines of the new rendition. Rather, they are working in the background collaborating and helping.

Thanks to twitter and press releases we are able to grasp the full on excitement the artists themselves are feeling.

Bieber tweeted: “Singing We Are The World right now with Celine Dion next to me!! Everyone is here!! I’m meeting everyone!! This is insane! Ok ok chill.”

Joel Madden, whose daughter Harlow, (granddaughter to Lionel Richie) is reportedly partaking in the new video, shared highlights of the night: “We are the world was great. Nice work Lionel, Quincy, and RedOne. Highlights: Kanye hanging with Harlow, and meeting Daft Punk.”

Jordan Sparks overwhelmed with joy tweeted: “Being apart of the We Are The World remake is such an honor. So much talent together for a great cause. I will never forget tonight.”

Josh Groban shared, “I’m standing there between Tony Bennett and Bizzy, that’s not ever really going to happen again.”

Kanye, known for his outrageous comments kept his cool while telling reporters, “It was a good cause. This is an amazing and history making moment and I’m just glad I was able to see something like this happen again.”

In addition to the start-studded singers, RedOne promises instrumentation from the likes of Orianthi (the guitarist for Michael Jackson’s This Is It show) and other big-name musicians including the well known guitarist and singer, Carlos Santana.

RedOne continued on by saying, “With music you want to help people feel something in a certain way, and this is something devastating that just happened and I am and we are the world. We’re going to be helping people that we don’t know.”
