If you weren’t familiar with Sonia Rykiel prior to her H&M collaboration then you definitely knew her designs. Rykiel created the famous striped sweater Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw) wore the designer her big debut in Paris. So if you don’t know now you know…
Following the lingerie collaboration with H&M which included boudoir-style evening wear, Sonia Rykiel will debut a new knitwear collection on February 20.
The Sonia Rykiel pour Knitwear and accessories collection will feature everything from multi-stripes to the little black dress with pieces that are classic Parisienne chic and distinctly Rykiel.
“After our lingerie collaboration, I wanted to get to the heart of the brand by offering a joyful, 100% knitwear collection,” says Nathalie Rykiel, president and artistic director of Sonia Rykiel. “Knit is the essence of Sonia Rykiel and an absolute must for all women.”
If you didn’t instantly recognize her name then I am certain you’d recognize her designs because she designed one of the most talked about looks in Sex and the City history.
As Carrie Bradshaw descended on Paris for the first time she left behind her New York vibe and embraced French culture. Her interpretation was classic French stripes with a unique twist that made it simply Carrie.
The fabled Sonia Rykiel striped sweater with the huge flower on the front worn by Carrie Bradshaw herself in the SATC Paris episode is a coveted, lusted-after collector’s piece that is not only rare, but totally fabulous.
Made of soft, stretchy knit in a black and black stripe, the contoured cut top had 3/4 length sleeves. But the piece-des-resistance was the layered flower placed in the center of the top, making it instantly recognizable.
Now do you see why I am so excited?
If you happen to own this piece of fashion history, send me a photo of you wearing it so I can publish.
