In what was one of my favorite shows during New York Fashion Week the season six winner of Project Runway, Irina Shabayeva, debuted her Fall 2010 collection with an stunning array of cozy knits, exotic materials, luxe fabrics, and… Tupperware!
*In order to show the attention to detail that could be overlooked in the runway images, courtesy of Irina Shabayeva, I’ve attached my own images alongside them. It’s important to see the entire look, but equally important is seeing the exquisite intricacies only viewed up close.
“Freedom and the un-tethered journey of flight” set Irina Shabayeva on a course to create a fantasy of intricate beading, textile construction and exotic materials.
Featuring hand sewn creations of soft cashmere, something that Irina brilliantly showcased on Project Runway, she mixed her scrumptious knitwear with silk-screened and hand- painted wools alongside sculpted bodices and flight inspired flounces.
Materials ranged from natural (fur) to industrial (plastic) as creations were swirled in feathers (pheasant, duck) and patterns only born in nature.
In an interesting partnership with an alternative view to fashion, Tupperware-engineered materials provided the hard edges and solid structures delicately balanced with luxurious materials like cashmere, supple leathers, double faced wool and fur. “Knowing that Tupperware is so passionate about empowering women, it was easy to implement an element of determination into the clothing,” states Shabayeva. “To me, fashion and the design process is liberating, fun and empowering.”
“When we saw Irina on Project Runway, we were simply in awe of her of talent and vision,” said Tupperware Brands’ Chairman and CEO Rick Goings. “As a company that has long been focused on innovative design, we’re thrilled to work with someone who is forward-thinking and whose work is so inspiring.”
What blew me away is that Irina’s collection featured a diverse range of apparel, which showcased her exceptional talent as a designer and all came together as a cohesive collective.
On Project Runway she displayed a knack for knitwear and the creativity to paint on clothes. She displayed both those creative elements in this collection and also threw slim-fitting pants, leather, fur and evening gowns into the equation.
Highlights from the Fall collection include hand-painted print coats and wraps with fox fur trim, razor sharp cigarette pants with leather panels, hand beaded black wool cigarette pants, luxurious cashmere knit scarves, a cozy angora oversized cardigan, and fox/leather aviator hats.
Her final three looks provided the high wattage glamour and over-the-top luxe makes fashion week what it is.
A strapless white cocktail dress made from duck feathers, silk and 8 different wings of Tupperware materials blew me away in addition to a black and gold cocktail dress made of silk, tulle, and feathers that was topped off with a black cashmere fox fur wrap that was simply irresistible.
After seeing this collection I yearn for the cozy knits, opulent fur and luscious details that only Fall can bring. When do I place my order?

Absolutely stunning! The spirit of a bird in flight is very moving and emotional on many levels. The wings are an excellent symbol of freedom.
May I have one of everything?
I love anything with bird designs on them, hopefully the feathers are all naturally molted feathers- since one of my room-mates is a very famous bird!
