LOUIS VUITTON FALL 2010: Fabulous Lady-Like Handbags You’ll Covet for Fall

March 12th, 2010 · BE THE FIRST TO ADD A COMMENT!

Next season’s accessories from Louis Vuitton promise to fulfill any fashionistas cravings for style and luxury since the Fall 2010 collection showcased retro-inspired classic bags, with Marc Jacobs’ modern flair.

“And God Created Women” announced the program for designer Marc Jacob’s Fall 2010 show for Louis Vuitton, where iconic supermodels including Elle Macpherson, Laetitia Casta, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lara Stone, and Bar Refaeli paraded retro sexy clothes around the courtyard fountain at the Louvre.

Almost every model carried a fabulous piece of arm candy from the latest range of handbags – most notably the Speedy, a Thirties design that had been reinvented in myriad ways.

Beautiful vintage-inspired handbags complemented the 1950s sex kitten collection, which focused heavily on the bosom, thrusting upwards from corseted dresses and nip-waisted jackets.

The amazing display of bags included doctor satchels, speedy bags, clutches, and structured purses in luxurious skins. The high quality collection mixed exotic skins (crocodile, snake) with an updated Louis Vuitton monogram in rich baroque and sleek shimmery canvas.

But the bag we saw the most of was the classic Speedy, which Jacobs has reinterpreted into a truly modern work of art. While the functional shape remained intact, the exterior made the classic Louis Monogram canvas monogram Speedy practically unrecognizable.

Style.com raved of the handbags saying, “This Louis Vuitton show provided a charming backdrop to display the bags. This season, it’s a zillion mignonne reinterpretations of the classic Speedy. Here, that functional shape, designed in the 1930’s, came flocked and sequined, smothered in guipure lace over satin, or woven in metallic thread and done up in fox.”

WWD called the beautiful bags “fantastic redos of the Vuitton Speedy.”

“Jacobs singled out Vuitton’s 80-year-old Speedy bag, originally known as the Express, as the focus of his high-quality chase, here, put to good use. He exercised the atelier’s talents by reimagining the bag in flocked and sequined monograms, cloque, lace and Damier checks re-created in fox fur and hand-painted croc — incredible treatments that flaunted the workmanship and made a new classic for every type of tony LV lady.”

Sophisticated and timeless, any one of these bags is a worthy investment for Fall.

LOUIS VUITTON FALL 2010 Celebrates Womanly Curves as Supermodels Elle Macpherson, Laetitia Casta Return to the Catwalk

March 12th, 2010 · BE THE FIRST TO ADD A COMMENT!

Make way for the return of gorgeous, glamorous supermodels!

“And God Created Women” announced the program for designer Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 show for Louis Vuitton, where iconic supermodels of all ages and voluptuous Victoria’s Secret Angels paraded retro sexy clothes around the courtyard fountain at the Louvre.

Miuccia Prada first broached the comeback of the curvy silhouette earlier in the season in Milan and now it was Marc Jacobs turn, with an ode to the retro Mad Men style of dress, but with a charming French accent.

Laetitia Casta opened the show in a full-skirted ’50s dress with décolletage aplenty, followed by Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lara Stone, and Bar Refaeli in ladylike looks, like petticoats, waist-cinching tweeds and innocent floral frocks.

Adriana Lima’s first big fashion job since giving birth had her thinking about her little bundle of job. “Valentina is doing wonderful,” she smiled. “It’s still a mental shock to be part of the Vuitton show just months after nursing my baby. But it’s nice for someone to spoil you with hair and make-up once in a while!”

The supermodels were joined on the runway by some of the industry’s biggest names including Coco Rocha, Jessica Stam and Lily Donaldson.

For the finale, Elle Macpherson, 47, made a rare appearance stealing the show in a glamorous rose-colored crinoline gown with corseted bustier, which looked amazing on her hourglass figure. “My life really revolves around my business these days, but Marc called me and told that he was doing this story about creation of the woman and I was just intrigued,” Macpherson said. “But I’m not only here to support him, but also the concept that all women are full of elegance and grace. That’s such a big part of who I am! And now I have to call my kids.”

Models strutted around the Louvre’s 16-jet dancing fountains to the theme music from the Fifties French film And God Created Woman.

Sweet and sensual at the same time, Marc Jacobs embraced voluptuousness and the 1950s sex kitten focusing on the bosom, thrusting upwards from corseted dresses and nip-waisted jackets.

Bouncing ponytails, each decorated with bows and velvet ribbon belts, added a playful ladylike elegance to the retro ensembles while each model carried a variation on the classic Speedy bag paired with elbow-length leather gloves, and kitten heels adorned with bows.

And there were familiar faces both on and off the catwalk, as bright stars Natalia Vodianova, Alexa Chung, Margherita Missoni, Daisy Lowe and Pixie Geldof watched the supermodels walk the runway. “I’m so emotional after this,” said an overwhelmed Lowe. “I think I broke down in tears ten times over the course of the show.”

Jacobs explained how his aim had been to create a collection that appealed to a wider market saying, “Designers are always saying they’re going to do a collection for women, but then every girl on the runway is under twenty.”

“I wanted to do something that really contrasted the last season,” said Jacobs. “So this was really all about the essential beauty, unrivaled femininity and just a celebration of very beautiful and wonderful women. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with all of these girls, and even someone like Elle walked in my show 20 years ago.”

British Vogue called the show ‘ravishing’ adding it was ‘truly a celebration of womanhood, the full skirts were caught into a triple pleat over the back to make even [model Karolina] Kurkova look buxom, while breasts were spilling over the top of dresses that, but for that unmissable detail, were demure, with high beribboned waists.’

WWD wasn’t so keen on the collection saying, “It was a captivating atmosphere… the whole production had a grand retro cinematic air and clothes to match, which was a problem.”

“If the fit-and-flare silhouette celebrated womanly beauty, it also showed how dated and unrealistic the look is now. While it was all luxuriously crafted, the weighty fabrics, skirt lengths and volumes managed to turn the world’s biggest sexpots into dowdy matrons at times.”

Style.com said, “This was one fashion show heterosexual men are going to understand. Breast-wise, it put it all on a plate—or rather a corseted, cantilevered, frill-edged balcony.”

“If there was little to zero variety in silhouette—and the dirndl-esque petticoated skirt can’t be for the many—the items and trimmings exemplified the Vuitton knack for classy detail, as in fur buttons and collars and glittery heels.”

Meanwhile, Elle said, “Cleavage was on full display thanks to Marilyn Monroe-esque corset dresses with full swinging skirts. I loved seeing curvier models on the catwalk.”

CHANEL’S BIG CHILL: Fall 2010 Handbags All Faux Fur and Icebergs

March 12th, 2010 · BE THE FIRST TO ADD A COMMENT!

Ice, ice baby!

For CHANEL’S Fall 2010 collection, Karl Lagerfeld wanted to ensure the arctic scene at the runway show was so realistic that he went above and beyond to ensure an authentic ice-age feel.

For the six days leading up to the Chanel Fall 2010 show, Karl Lagerfeld had the thirty-five person team who sculpted The Ice Hotel in Sweden brought in to carve a 265-ton, 28 feet tall iceberg, also imported from Sweden, in the middle of the Grand Palais.

The room was chilled to 25 degrees Fahrenheit, and the iceberg was hidden from the audience under a large wooden box that mechanically rose when the show started.

The “three bears on an ice flow” theme became apparent as soon as models emerged in head to toe fur ensembles. Giant chunks of ice formed the glacial sculpture around which the models hit the catwalk. Shaggy snow boots with ice-block heels and two-tone shoes covered with plastic galoshes kept the models feet dry as the ice slowly melted, causing their yeti boots and long trains to trail through the frigid water.

The Kaiser took the cause so much to heart that he filled the collection with fur, albeit fake fur. In a fashion first, Karl decided to promote chic environmentalism with a collection loaded with lush furs (tops, pants, bags, and boots) which was all faux.

“It’s so good now, technical advances are so perfect you can hardly tell fake fur from the real thing,” he said backstage. “Fake is not chic – we have got a new Chanel tweed to stop copies – but fake fur is.”

“It’s not global warming, it’s global-cooling!”

The house’s exquisite craftsmanship was on full display as Lagerfeld transported us to the North Pole with a collection that makes you yearn for cooler climates simply for the chance to wear the luxe apparel.

Fur was flying everywhere – wild fur pants, boots, and coats. Fur trim adorned tweed jackets, explorer backpacks and chain-handled bags.

The classic quilted shape of Chanel’s 2.55 bag was updated with rich tweeds mixed with “fantasy fur” for a warm and cozy alternative to classic lambskin.

Glacial jewelry added a sparkling sheen with sparkling ice-inspired jewelry and rock-crystal accessories.

With frosty hairdos, Lagerfelds’ ice queens wore winter white dresses while carrying clear Lucite minaudieres in which the quilting of the Chanel classic bag had been frozen into the likeness of an ice cube tray.

For the finale, a wedding dress knitted in silk tulle ribbon formed a tight-fitting sweater which swept away. The fashionable ice-queen carried an ice-block purse on a fur-woven Chanel chain.

SANDRA BULLOCK Wore New CHANEL ROUGE COCO Lipstick to Oscars

March 11th, 2010 · BE THE FIRST TO ADD A COMMENT!

In one of her personal best dressed moments, Sandra Bullock couldn’t have looked better in a dazzling gown to accept her Academy Award for Best Actress at the Oscar’s on March 7.

Sandra Bullock oozed old Hollywood glamour when she hit the red carpet wearing a Marchesa Fall 2010 gold beaded gown with silver embroidered detail. But it was her bold red lips that really stood out, a last minute decision that turned into the ultimate statement.

“We really were not going to go with color,” says Sandra’s makeup artist Angela Levin. “But we were just hanging out and I was showing her the colors Chanel had sent me and I’m like ‘look at what a gorgeous Red!’ Next thing I know, Sandra puts it on her lips and goes ‘this is awesome.’ And that’s what it ended up being!”

For Sandra’s lips, Angela used Chanel Rouge Coco #22 Paris, a new long-lasting and hydrating collection which is being billed as a “modern interpretation” of crème lipstick.

“It’s a fabulous color – a Red with pink in it. I went for glamour but with a modern twist to it. I didn’t do a lip liner,” Angela says. “I wanted the lip to look like she just put it on herself. I left it kind of dewy.”

Levin also used the lipstick to highlight Bullock’s cheeks for a strong look: “I took the lipstick and I put a little bit of it on my finger and put it on her cheek and made that her blush color as well,”

In addition to Chanel’s new lipstick, she also added Chanel bronzer to  give Bullock a healthy glow. “To warm everything up and make it sort of fabulous, I used my favorite bronzer Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel in Desert Corail. I just used a big brush and ran it all over Sandra’s face just to warm everything up and make it healthy and gorgeous,” Angela said.

“I wanted to do a special, memorable look,” Angela said. “I wanted her to look like a movie star because I believed tonight was her night.”

I am so impressed with her complete look that every time I see Bullock’s image from that night I shriek with delight over how gorgeous she is.

Chanel Rouge Coco is one of the fabulous new creations of beauty maestro Peter Phillips, who was named the global creative director of makeup at the French house in 2008. “Women seem to have forgotten how to apply lipstick,” lamented Philips. “We have a whole generation of lip-gloss girls. Now, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with lip gloss — but there is something so feminine about the act of applying lipstick.

“I want to make lipstick as easy to apply as lip gloss, and for a long-lasting formula to feel comfortable on the lips.” Every one of the 30 shades in the line — each $30 — is named for a part of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s life, such as Mademoiselle, a soft pink; Camelia, a deep rose, and Paris, a bright red.

I already have two Chanel Rouge Coco lipsticks: #05 Mademoiselle and #09 Organdi Rose, a dusty rose. The formula of the lipstick is smooth and creamy, but never heavy. I often wear mine with a bare face and sometimes add a dab of gloss. For someone who replaced lipstick with gloss 10+ years ago, I am enjoying the elegance and refinement that Rouge Coco has to offer.

It’s here, it’s finally here! The full length trailer from the third installment of the “Twilight” series, “Eclipse,” has arrived and exceeds expectations.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is my favorite book in the series and I cannot wait to see how the love triangle between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) plays out on screen.

Also, Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) finally gets the major story-line he deserves in “Eclipse.”

“Eclipse” hits theaters on June 30.
